After last weeks win at Mayfield, Hindpool had to make sure they applied the lessons learned in order to make sure they maintain progress.

Hindpool again faced a well drilled side with size on their side.

The home side made a steady start and where first on the score sheet with good rugby producing the chance out wide for young winger Rob Bower  who finished well. Bower converting his own try 6-0 five minuets gone. For the first quarter Hindpool had the upper hand completing regular sets of six. Good work wide on the left presented winger Rob Bower with a second try scoring opportunity but he failed to gather the pass. The visitors tried in vain to break the Hindpool line. On twenty minuets good work from Archer, Cubiss and Rickelton fed Sneasby with the opening to score but again Hindpool where guilty of not converting good approach work into points. In the second quarter the visitors began to make an impression on the home side  not all legal with Hindpool collecting several penalties for foul play in the ruck area. On 30min the visitors managed to get on the score sheet as they broke down their left through some weak defending scoring wide out 6-4. On the stroke of half time Hindpool scrum half Rickelton followed up a neat Cubiss kick to score only to have it ruled out for a knock on 6-4 half time.

The second was to prove a bruising tight affair but it was the home side that scored first. The Hindpool forwards took the play deep into visitors half Clark leading the way supported by Kennedy. It was from this platform that Chris Archer struck, running at the visitors scoring on 47 min Bower converting 12-4. The Hindpool where sniffing another win, this was backed up when after good work from the Hindpool three quarters Archer jumped out from dummy half and again powered over 16-4 55min gone. This prompted a reply from the visitors who began to apply pressure to the home side. For the next few sets the Hindpool struggled to contain the visitors and they scored on 60 min 16-10 another grand stand finish on offer.

The visitors where applying pressure on Hindpool both in attack and defence the home side benefiting from their opponents ill discipline. The home side where well drilled and kept their discipline against some provocation and got their reward when on 75 min they received a penalty that gave the opportunity to open a vital 8 point lead Bower converting 18-10. Hindpool used the ball intelligently and worked up field with Cubiss opening up the visitors two plays later Paul Rickelton ran at the defence put in a neat kick which he followed up to score. As the home support celebrated to their disappointment the ref ruled out the try for a St Maries knock on surprisingly. Under increasing pressure the home side again put their bodies on the line to hold on to an excellent home win. Archer was voted man of the match for Hindpool with an outstanding game but the coach was over the moon with the effort and commitment of all 17 players and credited the win to the application and effort put in on the training field by all Hindpool’s players at the club.

This was a game well played and a victory both well fought for and deserved by the Tigers, as well as being an exiting spectical from the touch line. The game its self could have been delt with better, by the man with the whistle, who seemed at times to be more than a little indecisive as well as seeming unsure of his own ability to adudicate when pressured by players. But that said hopefully a learning curve was enbarked on by all and the Tigers will take this tough fought win, as wall as the confidence they have earned, with them to the away fixture at Leigh.
Good look the Tigers see you all on the bus saturday
