First team beat Rochdale Mayfield 16-22

This was a game that Hindpool were determined to learn from the lessons taught in their last game.

From the opening minuets the Hindpool applied good pressure to the home side completing early sets of six. Pressure was building on the Mayfield line with good work from forwards Mike Kummer, Matty Preston and Tony Rickleton. This pressure paid off when impressive debutant Chris Archer sent Kummer romping over the line on twenty minuets converted by Rob Bower.

Again after good approach work by the Hindpool half backs, on 25min Travers sent young centre Sneasby clear to score a fine try again Bower adding the extras 12-0 to the visitors.

Mayfield then started to get their own game going and mounted several raids on the Hindpool line. As half time approached Mayfield got their reward with a converted try,12-6 at the break.

The second half started well for visitors with evergreen prop/coach Paul Dean showing the Hindpool youngsters the way with some line breaking runs and the same player was rewarded with a fine try scattering Mayfield players to score on 48 min 16-6.

This stung the home side who dually applied pressure which Hindpool worked hard to repel . The Hindpool were then guilty of forcing the pass and gifted the home side possession which they eventually took advantage of scoring on 58 min 16-12.

The home side where using their size advantage pounding the Hindpool line the visitors rising to the challenge to keep them out scrambling several times.

On 68 min the home side pulled the scores level 16-16 .

The final 12 min were hearts in mouth time for all concerned Hindpool gifted Mayfield possession in good field position and they threw everything at the visitors. Hindpool worked hard in defence well led by Dean, Archer and Preston.

Hindpool had their chances through Paul Rickleton and Phil Cubiss but just failed to convert until 68 min when Hindpool got their reward.

Neat approach work led to the half backs linking with Hindpools younger quicker backs who took play forward and it was Pearson who fed Preston to score under the posts Bower adding the conversion 22-16. The home side applied late pressure on the Hindpool line but the visitors dug in to earn their reward 2 vital points away.

For the Hindpool Chris Archer,Paul Dean and Matty Preston where voted best players in this victory but praise must go to all team members for a courageous display in defence especially as the Hindpool where 2 shy on the bench and lost young fullback Grant Burns on 60 min with a broken arm.
